Position Description

At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Intern to join the ZPE Systems Team in Blumenau, SC, Brazil. The DevOps Intern – Observability role is an entry-level position focused on learning the tools, practices, and concepts that keep production systems measurable, understandable, and actionable. Interns execute guided, hands-on tasks centred on metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting, and are expected to produce meaningful demonstrations and artifacts under mentor supervision.

What Will You Do?

  • Builds foundational observability skills by studying and applying the three pillars; metrics, logs, and traces; within lab, non-production, and production environments, and delivers a short demo illustrating how each signal type is collected and visualised.
  • Creates a basic observability artifact consisting of a simple dashboard and a triggered alert for a sample service, demonstrating signal selection, threshold configuration, and a realistic alert scenario with mentor guidance.
  • Develops an understanding of SLIs and SLOs by reviewing existing service-level definitions and contributing to documentation that explains what is being measured and why, as an introduction to reliability goal setting in an observability context.
  • Supports alert hygiene tasks by reviewing alert descriptions, verifying that runbook links are present and accurate, and flagging alerts that appear noisy or lack clear remediation steps, building an early habit of treating alerting quality as an engineering concern.
  • Creates and maintains runbooks and READMEs for each demo deliverable, linking relevant code, dashboard URLs, and reproduction steps, with documentation treated as a required part of every deliverable rather than an afterthought. Completes account and access setup across all required tooling including GitLab, Atlassian (Jira + Confluence), GCP, Bitwarden, WireGuard, and Harmony, and produces a readiness checklist confirming completion before beginning project work.
  • Completes the team onboarding process, attends intro sessions, and builds familiarity with team ceremonies, communication norms, observability tooling conventions, and escalation paths. Tracks all assigned work in Jira by logging progress, updating ticket statuses, and surfacing blockers early, maintaining full ownership of their board presence throughout the internship.
  • Reads and actively contributes to Confluence observability documentation, filling gaps by capturing any steps or processes not previously documented. Meets sprint expectations by demonstrating visible learning, consistent delivery, and transparent communication when blocked, with progress reviewed against defined success metrics.

Qualifications

Education: Currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience: Basic familiarity with Linux usage, including simple commands, filesystem navigation, and reading logs. Understanding of basic programming concepts (variables, loops, conditionals, functions) in at least

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

Strong willingness to learn, ask questions, and seek help when blocked. Basic written and verbal communication skills. Interest in understanding how distributed systems behave and how their health is measured and communicated. Curiosity about metrics, logs, alerting, and reliability practices. Basic understanding of what metrics, logs, and traces are and how they differ.

Proficiency with AI tools can be a differential but is not a substitute for these skills. The ideal candidate has a working knowledge foundation and is looking to improve their knowledge, experience, and coding abilities.
