Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Buyer Jr. to join the Lighting Sector Team in St. Louis, Missouri. Under general supervision of the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for the purchase of materials for inventory and non-inventory related requirements. Provides departmental support in achieving expediting requirements and ensures the quality, competitive pricing, and timely delivery of all procured items.

  • BS in business or related or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • 1-2 years purchasing experiences in a manufacturing environment 
  • MRP background desirable. 
  • Understanding of electrical/mechanical components purchasing preferred, but not required. 



  • Basic negotiating skills are essential.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required.
  • Must be proficient in spreadsheet & word processing programs such as Excel, word & Access.
  • Must be detail oriented and be willing to adapt to changing responsibilities as required to achieve departmental and corporate goals.


Position Attributes

Main Job Duties:

  • Maintains fundamental product, production process and commodity knowledge for the responsible supply segment.  Demonstrates a professional attitude and best service practices at all times towards suppliers and internal/external customers.
  • Analyzes and manages data from Planning, Engineering and Manufacturing to support the manufacturing plan. Reviews MRP for planned orders on assigned commodities and processes purchase orders in accordance to company standards.  Coordinates deliveries based on vendor lead times and specific manufacturing objectives.   
  • Reviews sales forecast and works closely with Operations to meet production-scheduling requirements and to determine accuracy of order policies recommending changes as required. 
  • Reviews overdue purchase orders; contacts supplier to establish revised delivery, updates the ERP and notifies appropriate departments of any significant delays. 
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with suppliers and supply chain partners.  Forwards all price change information to the Operations Managers.  Assists in locating alternate sources for materials when normal supply chain is interrupted or is no longer cost competitive.
  • Coordinates and processes returns to suppliers for non-conforming goods and materials as required.
  • Works with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Participates in physical inventory and cycle count programs.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices and performs in a safe and effective manner so as not to inflict injury to self or others.
  • Informs area management of any hazardous situations in the work environment.
  • Performs any other duties as required by the Director of  Operations to ensure realization of departmental and corporate goals.
