Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Quality Assurance Engineer to join the Building Control Systems Team in Carlsbad, California. The individual in this role will be responsible for implementing quality engineering principles into product design and development in all phases of the product development cycle. Act as the Voice of the Customer. Responsible & Accountable for the implementing best-in-class quality engineering principles and methodologies in product development process (APQP) , contract manufacturing quality, 8D root cause failure analysis, and driving continuous improvement (KPI)

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience as a Quality Engineer in new product development
  • 5+ years' experience in facilitating and driving meetings related to Quality.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience in a high volume manufacturing environment 
  • Experience with lighting controls a plus.
  • CQE certification or similar is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of Quality’s role in New Product Development (NPD).
  • Broad knowledge of electrical, mechanical and firmware testing to ensure design meets the specifications and requirements.
  • Able to lead and facilitate Quality meetings with multiple product development teams.
  • Ability to create Quality plans and validation test plans for stand-alone and system level devices.
  • Understand and lead DFMEAs with NPD teams.
  • Experience in APQP
  • Experience with regulatory agencies or testing requirements for UL, FCC, CE, TUV.
  • Experience or familiar with sustainability requirements for RoHS, PEPs, Prop65, REACH.
  • Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control.
  • Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation.
  • Knowledge and use of quality tools such as flowcharts, control charts, pareto charts, correlation studies, and DOE (Design of Experiments)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.  
  • Able to evaluate situations, identify options and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in Excel, Visio, Office 365 and meeting management software. 
  • Ability to use internet and web based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Be highly collaborative and able to work in a team based environment. 
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to management and for distribution throughout the company.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions. 

Position Attributes

Main Job Duties:

  • Serve as the primary Quality Assurance resource to product design teams, production support staff and related for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leads and participates in FMEAs (Failure Mode Effect & Analysis) for design and process
  • Drive sustaining projects thorough 8D RCCA process.
  • Develop, apply and maintain quality requirements and standards for development and manufacturing products.
  • Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing Quality Assurance and the customer.
  • Design and implement methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection.
  • Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, validation test plans, documents and reports.
  • Review and approve engineering change requests and ensure that the necessary criteria and provisions are included in quality and process plans.
  • Participate in internal and external quality audits.
  • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality assurance and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.
  • Acts as Liaison with UL, European Agencies, and other regulatory bodies for the certification of new and existing products.
  • Support sustainability efforts for RoHS, PEPs, Prop65, REACH, and life cycle analysis
  • Support Engineering in the validation and qualification testing of products.
  • Report to management on quality issues & trends, and develop options for improvements
  • Performs other similar and related duties as identified
