Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Designer Modeler, Mechanical to join the Middle Atlantic Products Team in Fairfield, NJ. The individual in this role will be working under the supervision of the Engineering Manager while taking direction from both Mechanical Engineers and Manager, he or she assists in the planning and execution of a broad range of engineering projects.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.    One (1) to Two (2) years college, trade or vocational education in mechanical drawing and related areas preferred.  A combination of formal training and well-rounded experience is acceptable

Experience:

  • Minimum Three (3) years’ experience in sheet metal / drafting field or related industry

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • AutoCad
  • Pro-E (Drawing. Modeling, Assembly, Process)
  • Sheet Metal Fabrication
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical skills for reviewing design concepts and costs

Position Attributes

Main Activities:

 

Engineering Drawings and 3D Modeling

  • Create 2D drawings from 3D models depicting all requirements for sheet metal fabrication.  Drawings will include: flat (unfolded) sheet metal parts, parts formed on press brakes and panel folders, spot welded and Mig welded assemblies, hardware insertion, finishing, as well as complete assembly drawings. 
  • Create 2D drawings from 3D models depicting all requirements to manufacture wood furniture.
  • Establish an understanding of the design and the designs application in order to capture critical information for manufacturing and inspection.
  • Create purchased component specification drawings for the purpose of properly identifying an intended purpose, incoming inspection, and utilizing an alternative supplier.
  • Create a graphical technical specification to communicate a products qualities, operation, application and limitations insuring that architects, engineers, installers, consultants, or the user can accurately identify the product for a required purpose. 
  • Simplify 3D models for the purpose of space planning and layout.
  • Adhere to common drafting standards while following company drafting guidelines.
  • Create 3D models with exploded views for the purpose of instructing an internal or external customer on the assembly of a product.
  • As required, create and maintain drawings for shipping and packing. 
  • As required, create and maintain drawings of special tooling, assembly fixtures, templates, and other tools used for production.   

Custom Product Processing

  • Assist in modeling and documenting a similar or custom version of an existing model or product.

 

*Various Eng. Dept. Tasks

  • Assist in product development / engineering changes by assembling prototypes, providing information or following up on the status of prototype/purchased parts, and any other function to insure a fast and complete development.
  • As required perform formal function of “checking” Engineering drawings generated by others for completeness, accuracy, tolerancing stack-ups, etc.
  • As required, communicate manufacturing routings for a given component.
  • Perform within requirements of documented Engineering Systems.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Vice President of Engineering and Quality Assurance to ensure realization of departmental and corporate goals.
  • Assume Engineering related Project Management / Systems Lead Role related to New Product Development, Engineering Change, Process Improvement, and or General Engineering Projects.
  • Recommend modifications of existing Engineering Systems to improve processes.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices, and perform in a safe and effective manner so as not to inflict injury to self or others.
  • Inform area management of any hazardous situations in the work environment.
