Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join the Middle Atlantic Team in Fairfield, NJ. A Business Development Manager will build sales revenue through opportunities presented by key accounts categorized as Systems Integration, Distribution and End User within the Broadcast / Broadband industry. This position will require extensive sales experience, including the ability to evaluate, educate, and manage the needs of major accounts that work directly to fulfill high-demand/high-volume projects in broadcast  markets. The position will place emphasis on building long-term relationships, identification and leverage of emerging trends, active application of stock solutions to unique opportunities, and identification and definition of new product/application opportunities. The Business Development Manager will work closely with the team of direct Legrand/Middle Atlantic Sales team to identify, analyze and manage target account purchasing trends and opportunities, identify and manage problems and issues, and identify, plan for, and execute against growth opportunities that exist within the targeted communities and within individual targeted accounts. The Business Development Manager will need to understand forecasting and budgeting within an established territory and demonstrate a constant need to succeed and over achieve financial results and measurable objectives.

  • Minimum Ten  (10) years in related Sales and broadcast industry Experience and utilizing Independent Manufacturers’ representatives and direct representatives, preferably in Broadcast, Datacomm, and Audio Visual  Markets


  • Bachelor of Science in Marketing/Business Administration


  • Solid working knowledge of Professional Broadcast  systems, broadcast design and contracting and  related components
  • An understanding of the various professional markets that comprise the broadcast market: TV, Cable/Broadband, Radio, Satellite, content creation (pre/post production) and content distribution systems.
  • Proficient in product knowledge (enclosures, accessories, power (including IP), furniture and their application into the various broadcast spaces
  • The ability to specify a basic broadcast CER (central equipment room)
  • A basic understanding of a data center and it’s fiber/cable management, enclosure, IP power and temperature containment  system needs.
  • Integrator / end-user relationships (management, engineering, PM’s, techs, procurement)
  • Having a strong understanding of the various aspects of the physical facility used by the broadcaster, content producer/provider/content distributor.
  • Industry / industry associations relationships



  • Travel Required 75% of the time
  • Weekend work occasionally required

Position Attributes

Main Job Duties:

Manage and grow your assigned territory

  • Develop a group of targeted accounts to maximize profitable revenue, grow new opportunities and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Identify, evaluate, categorize and penetrate new account opportunities while analyzing and evaluating the potential effects on existing relationships
  • Provide strategic input leading to the development of new product applications and/or new product-development opportunities.
  • Define, outline, and clearly communicate needed marketing and sales-support collateral and programs to the appropriate internal resources for potential development/implementation
  • Communicate product features and benefits through in-person and virtual training opportunities and such outreach opportunities as may be identified and offered by the target accounts
  • Develop and perform quarterly strategic sales plans and monthly “pipeline” forecasts
  • Develop and maintain useful industry certification/visibility through participation in SBE, SMPTE, SCTE, Infocomm,  or other industry standards organizations
  • Work closely with Customers’ Sr Management teams to strategize, coordinate, and co-author Sales/Marketing plans best suited to provide mutual sales and category growth
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the connectivity and other technology products, distribution channels and pricing
  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of information to ensure that both the customer and the Company are provided with the information they need to best perform their jobs
  • Accomplish other assignments or projects assigned by management
  • Work across all Legrand companies to maximize customer opportunities and solutions provided

 Sales Quotas

  • Working with the Sales Analyst and Management, establish sales quotas for all markets under this positions auspices
  • Periodically review performance to quota and provide updated outlooks

Communicating field observations

  • Identify and communicate competitor activities and other industry activities that affect us to Product Management
  • Closely monitor and report our effectiveness in all sales and marketing activities
  • Feedback all information pertaining to MAP operations as they affect the short and or long term sales and customer satisfaction for the company to Sales Management
  • Monitor and communicate the effectiveness of MAP distribution policies to Sales Management
  • Identify and communicate product and or product line opportunities or deficiencies to Product Management

Profit margins and sales Volumes

  • Jointly responsible for establishing and achieving profit margins and sales volumes for the company along with all other sales and marketing managers


  • Work with management to establish sales budgets and stay within the established guidelines
  • Adhere to established sales travel and trade show policies and guidelines


  • Perform other duties as required to ensure the realization of departmental and corporate goals
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices and perform in a safe manner so as not to inflict injury to self or others
  • Inform management of any hazardous situations in the workplace
