Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Buyer/Planner to join the WattStopper Team in San Jose, CA. The individual in this role will ensure that material, (primarily finished goods) are properly planned, ordered, and received in the proper amount to achieve service level and inventory turn goals. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, coordinating and/or final approval of products through the complete production cycle.

Required Skills:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Purchasing with 2+ years of purchasing experience


  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 7+ years of purchasing experience

Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience with JDE and/or SO-99+ preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and close attention to detail.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to new opportunities in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient in negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Exceptional computer skills, extensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, proficiency with various e-mail, calendaring, meeting management and related communications software.
  • Highly collaborative and able to work in a team based environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven ability to effectively research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Position Attributes

Main Activities:

  • Organization:  Individual Contributor competency model
  • Main Interface:  Internal – Product managers, sales team, production staff.  External – suppliers, vendors and customers. 
  • Budget:  Manages annual cost reduction budgets and forecasts, provides input to entity budget, manages actual to budget throughout fiscal year
  • Main Job Duties:
  1. Initiates purchase orders and arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required.
  2. Executes purchase plan by placing purchase orders through JDE purchasing system.
  3. Plans purchase requirements using DRP (Distribution Requirement Planning) system.
  4. Coordinates shipments with suppliers and updates shipping schedules within JDE.
  5. Monitors production plan to identify backorders and stock outs; Takes necessary action to ensure production is met and to minimize stock shortages.
  6. Provides suppliers with 12-month moving forecasts.
  7. Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
  8. Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management, negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from management.
  9. Answers internal questions relating to the availability of product.
  10. Performs other similar and related duties as required.
