Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Engineer, Mechanical I/Mechanical Process Engineer to join the Data Communications Division Team in Hickory, NC. The purpose of the Process Engineering position is to maintain responsibility for existing fiber optic and copper communication cable assembly processes and the establishment of new manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve quality, and develop best practices within the production process. Furthermore, the position will support the growing needs of the Hickory Legrand Data Communications plant in terms of new product support, qualification of raw materials, quality support, training support, and other applicable areas to directly support internal customers.

Qualifications

Education:  

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other engineering degrees and technical work experience may be considered

Experience:  

  • Experience with the manufacturing processes for copper and fiber cabling products or similar manufacturing processes with 2-4 years experience preferred

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Exceptional mechanical skills required
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting Production and Quality
  • Ability to proficiently use SolidWorks or other 3D modeling system
  • Electrical/Electronics knowledge a plus
  • Advanced PC skills required
  • Excellent Project management skills
  • Software coding using C, C++, and/or Visual Basic a plus
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and technically accurate procedures and work instructions
  • Good internal and external customer oriented communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data quickly to make decisions

Position Attributes

 

Main Job Duties:

  • Develop and maintain fiber and copper communication cable assembly construction processes
  • Develop creative and innovative processing techniques
  • Develop industrial tooling for production processes
  • Support new product objectives from a process perspective
  • Support the Engineering Change system
  • Create and maintain drawings and bills of materials for various equipment and custom product designs
  • Capture and analyze production process data
  • Work closely with Quality, Training, Warehouse, and Production staff to optimize systems to improve efficiency, quality, and to help create a world-class manufacturing facility
  • Work closely with the Data Communications team to qualify and transfer Data Communications branded products to the Hickory Data Communications Division facility
  • Perform a multitude of tests on optical fiber and copper cable products in accordance with EIA/TIA, Telcordia, and IEC standards as required
  • Perform other related duties as required
