Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Designer to join the Legrand Team in West Hartford, CT. The individual in this role creates innovative and beautiful solutions for simple and complex problems. Desires a deep understanding of the end user and advocates for them during the definition and development process. Produce sketches, renderings, specifications and documentation that effectively communicate design intent. Effectively defends the design intent through production.


Must be curious, empathic and love design. Should have the desire to work with a diverse set of disciplines in creating new and innovative product solutions. Comfortable presenting to groups and conducting research in person.

  • Degree in Industrial Design (BSID, BS, MFA) or higher


  • 3+ years of relevant experience (corporate or consultancy)


  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, managing outside vendors (industrial design and/or OEMs) and presenting to management.
  • Strong sketching, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate design ideas using sketches and computer generated visualization tools. Including (but not limited to): Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Alias Sketch, Microsoft Office Suite etc.
  • Working knowledge of Pro-E,  Solidworks or similar modeling software.
  • Ability to reflect brand strategies in design solutions that meet design, marketing, production, and management objectives.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects.
  • Interface with and manage design projects in conjunction with other disciplines such as researchers, architects, interior designers, and graphic designer.
  • Amount of travel ~30% (international and domestic).

Position Attributes

Main Job Duties:

1.    Responsible for the identification, development and design of new products and solutions

2.    Identify user needs and design trends, propose design solutions and research projects

3.    Create multiple concepts that help the organization make decisions on final product directions

4.    Present Industrial Design solutions and concepts to Marketing and Engineering

5.    Work with Marketing to research and make functional and aesthetic trade offs

6.    Propose Material, Finish and Color options

7.    Assist Director on the development of Appearance and UI strategies

8.    Produce 3-D databases that can be used for ID models and engineering reference.

9.    Understands and helps create Appearance Strategies that reinforce Legrand's Brands

10.  Create sketches, 2-D and 3-D renderings to communicate design intent.

11.  Work with Engineering on production details to insure design intent.

12.  Prepare presentation that tell a story.

13.  Performs other similar and related duties as required.
