Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Vertical Market Director, Education to join the Building Control Systems Team.The Vertical Market Director, Education will build sales revenue through opportunities presented by key accounts categorized as Systems Integration, Distribution and End User within the Education industry (K-12 and Higher Ed). This position will require extensive sales experience, including the ability to evaluate, educate, and manage the needs of major accounts that work directly to fulfill high-demand/high-volume projects in Education markets. The position will emphasize building long-term relationships, identification and leverage of emerging trends, active application of stock solutions to unique opportunities, and identification and definition of new product/application opportunities. The Vertical Market Director, Education will work closely with the team of direct Legrand/WattStopper Sales team to identify, analyze and manage target account purchasing trends and opportunities, identify and manage problems and issues, and identify, plan for, and execute against growth opportunities that exist within the targeted communities and within individual targeted accounts. The Vertical Market Director, Education will need to understand forecasting and budgeting within an established territory and demonstrate a constant need to succeed and over achieve financial results and measurable objectives.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Sales and Marketing or related field.
  • 10 years of progressive sales management experience in related Sales, Lighting and Lighting Controls Industry Experience and utilizing Independent Manufacturers’ representatives and direct representatives, preferably in Lighting Controls, Datacom, and Audio Visual & Commercial Integration Market
  • 10 years experience in commercial electrical construction Understanding BMS & BAS system design & BACnet communications as well as Understanding both ASHRAE standards and National Electrical Codes

Additional Qualifications:

  • MBA preferred
  • ASHE Certified-Member IES & IALD Certified
  • BACnet Certified
  • CLCP or Manager Certified
  • Certified in IES, IALD, and BACnet.
  • Solid working knowledge of Professional Education Systems, Education design and contracting and related components
  • An understanding of the various professional markets that comprise the Edcuation Markets: Electrical Distribution, Data Networks, System Integration, Lighting Controls, content creation (pre/post production) and content distribution systems
  • Proficient in product knowledge Lighting Controls, accessories, power grids, Data Networking and their application into the various Education spaces
  • The ability to specify a basic code compliant lighting control systems and Education integration applications
  • A basic understanding of a Education facilities relating to advanced data networks & electrical power infrastructure
  • Integrator / end-user relationships (management, engineering, PM’s, techs, procurement)
  • Strong knowledge of Lighting, Controls and Shade product lines and competitor's products and their applications, as well as industry standards, and installation practices.  Extensive knowledge of the market and sales channels within the market
  • Strong leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to supervise and manage others
  • Provide leadership, guidance, development and motivation to staff to achieve superior results and accomplish overall business objectives
  • Excellent skills in project management, demonstrated ability to make timely and effective decision, handle multiple priorities and effectively delegate responsibilities to ensure high quality service is delivered on time and within budget
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.  Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, clients and public groups, as required
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities
  • Solid business acumen and understanding of a variety of functional areas within the business

  • Main Interface: Internal – Managing Director Specification Sales, Product Management, Marcom, Service/Support and RVP’s/Rep’s. External – design/spec community – Specifiers: Lighting Designers, Architects, Developers/Builders and Owners.
  • Budget: Accountable for meeting and exceeding plan KPI’s.  Expense management. Annual budget setting


Main Job Duties:

  • Provides Specification strategic leadership for the organization in order to meet established company and entity goals.  Collaborates to develop annual sales plan in support of the organization's strategic initiatives and objectives.   
  • Develops, trains and field sales on a day to day basis, establishes goals and provides performance feedback per Legrand performance management process.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and communicates market and business trends, sales information and competitive intelligence.
  • Recommends Specification strategies for improvement based on market research, market trends and competitive analyses.
  • Directs implementation and execution of Specification policies and practices.
  • Ensures communications are coordinated, support sales plan objectives and meet organizational expenditure requirements.
  • Oversees the growth plans for customer acquisition with Vertical Market team supporting sales and volume, manages and controls team’s expenses.  Prepares requested reports.
  • Implements approved Specification strategies and supports multiple channel selling strategies.
  • Supports innovation and creative change.  Creates enthusiasm and inspires teamwork and cooperation within organization and with other functions and Legrand entities.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.
  • Establish relationships with A & E Firms and provides: design assistance where and when necessary; implements Legrand Master Spec; conducts Continuing Education Seminars
  • Provides High Level Project Management across the four moments of truth
  • Collaborate with entire sales force within the Legrand family.
  • Maximize the sales tools, including daily Usage of CRM Tool.  Fully understand and utilize training and materials provided to support sales activities. Optimize time and territory management.
