    Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join the MAP Team in Fairfield, NJ. The individual in this role will be responsible to assist in the automation of plant operations. Experienced in design, and utilization of manufacturing tools, along with Electrical, Pneumatic, PLC, Assembly, CAD and GMP to accomplish the end task of completing in house automated machine building and work with outside vendors to bring automation projects to completion. Oversee Process Control of Paint Line.  Ensure process is capable of meeting standards of production efficiency, and quality with minimal environmental impact.

    • AS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience such as 5 years minimum experience with Machine Tool Technology, Mills, Lathes, Grinders, VMC, CNC Programming


    • 5 years minimum of experience designing, implementing and working with automated equipment and its assembly
    • Must be knowledgeable of Powder Coating Process

    Position Attributes

    • Organization:  Team Leader Management
    • Main Interface:  Internal: Manufacturing personnel at all levels within the operation, specifically Fabrication.  External: Vendors/suppliers
    • Budget: Manage budget for department

    Main Job Duties:

    #1 Equipment Repair and Maintenance

    • Manage daily activities of Fabrication Maintenance Department, including employee performances which include reviews, goal setting, training and issues and concerns of the departments’ staff.
    • Make decisions about in house support versus outsourced support.
    • Inspects completed jobs for quality assurance.
    • Responds to unplanned Fabrication Maintenance requests.
    • Justify new equipment, processes or techniques that will improve the performance of the company’s equipment or facility.
    • Develop and perform complete inspections (PM’S), develop actions and complete all follow up required.
    • Work on special projects as necessary from upper management.
    • Manage and improve the preventative maintenance function of the Fabrication Department’s equipment.
    • Diagnoses problems and recommend corrective actions.
    • Promotes team involvement and participation setting goals, priorities and strategies for safe, efficient and effective Fabrication Maintenance operation.

    #2 Fixturing/Custom Machine Building

    • Set-up and follow through with manufacturing personnel to insure new automation technology procedures are utilized in a safe and consistent manner with the design concepts.
    • PLC and motion controls – utilize this technology as it applies to the operation of automation projects.
    • Electrical- hardwire and setup machinery with necessary sensors, vision systems, and components for proper machine operation.
    • Pneumatic- Plumb and install necessary components as it applies to machine operation.
    • Design and manufacture Jigs and Fixtures throughout the operation and train employees in the proper use of jig and fixtures.
    • Assembly- build components to complete automation technology as it applies to MAP.
    • Assist in the design and engineering of automation concepts, with the use of CAD and engineering tools.

    #3 Advanced Manufacturing

    • Continuously challenge and collaborate closely with all areas within Fabrication to challenge and develop better layouts/work flow (E.g. Cellular) to improve efficiency, productivity and organization.

    #4 Process and Design (DIM/VAVE)

    • Improve utilization of technology (existing and future) in order to drive process improvements and better use of existing resources and capital equipment (E.g. Welding robot – fixturing – Laser welding).
    • Drive collaboration with Leads, Supervisors, Engineering, Materials Mgmt. to ensure correct execution of DFM projects – (design for manufacturing) – involving design and process changes.
    • New products – Actively participate in design reviews, prototypes & pilot runs. Take responsibility for feedback to Engineering, labor standards and process needs.
    • Resolve fabrication technical issues (e.g. Poor machine set-ups, downloaded programs, simple G-code, basic machine maintenance, etc.).
