    Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Assurance Inspector to join the Middle Atlantic Products Team in Fairfield, NJ. The individual in this position will perform inspection of in process parts or finished goods for conformance to specifications.  Responsibilites also include investigating non-conformances, determining root causes and assisting in corrective actions.

    • High School Diploma, General Education Degree, GED Required.
    • Technical School/Background, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics preferred.


    • Minimum of two years in manufacturing environment, preferably in a Quality Assurance capacity.
    • Familiarity with metal fabrication and manufacturing assembly preferred.
    • ASQ CQI preferred.


    • Familiarity with metal fabrication, electro-mechanical assemblies and electronics assembly prefer.
    • Position requires proficiency in blueprint & basic schematic layout reading.
    • Use of wide variety of dimensional measurement equipment including caliper, micrometer, height gage, fixed gages, basic electrical test equipment, etc.
    • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute ratio, and percent.
    • Capable of simple data entry into established software applications.
    • Good computer skills - proficient in applications such as MS Office and/or Engineering related software.
    • Basic understanding of applicable ISO 9001 requirements.
    • Must be accurate, dependable, and able to work well in a fast paced environment.
    • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as, procedure manuals, safety rules and operating instructions.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.


    • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to address quality compliance issues with other departments such as Materials Management, Production, Purchasing, Engineering, etc.
    • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk.  There may also be periods of prolonged sitting or standing.
    • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and shall have sufficient physical dexterity to handle small parts, sensitive instruments and other machine controls.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 
    • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally move up to 65 pounds.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts, presses, punches and other heavy machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to non-temperature controlled environments.
    • The noise level in the work environment can range from moderate to that requiring a Hearing Conservation Program.

    Main Job Duties:

    • Perform targeted detailed In-Process and Final Inspections of MAP Production Operations.
    • Perform detailed inspection of suppliers’ materials/components.
    • As required, assist in inspection of First Piece set-up’s or First Articles.
    • As required, perform inspection of Returned Goods (RGA) to determine specific defect. Information is critical to identify trends in returned products so appropriate action can be taken.
    • Investigate customer complaints assigned by Quality Assurance Inspection Supervisor or Manager of Quality Assurance.
    • Perform within requirements of the documented Quality Assurance System.
    • Generate Non-Conforming Material Tags and communicate all necessary inventory adjustments when items are found which deviate from established QA standards.  As appropriate, reports are distributed to management.
    • Enter data necessary to track part history and in-house efficiency/defect rates, etc. into computer.
    • Assist and, as necessary, perform equipment calibration and recall.
    • Perform internal Process/Product QA & Safety audits
    • Perform basic Root Cause Investigations of internal process and make recommendations for Corrective Action.
    • As assigned, assist in development and maintenance of documented procedures and work instructions
    • Assist in generating monthly reports necessary to track part/product history and in-house efficiency/defect rates, etc.
    • Promote an awareness of quality and safety requirements throughout the organization.
    • Work to continuously improve all aspects of the documented Quality and Safety Systems while reducing the overall cost of quality.
    • Maintain good housekeeping practices and performs duties in safe and efficient manner so as not to inflict injury to self or others.
    • Inform area management of any hazardous situations in the work environment.
    • Perform other Quality, Safety and Training duties as assigned.
    • Perform internal stock sweep.
