    Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Senior Tool Designer (1st Shift) to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Team in West Hartford, CT. This individual will prepare layout drawings and detail drawings for dies and tooling operations using computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software. Modifies tool designs according to trial runs or production service data to improve tool life, tool performance, customer service or part quality. Provides assistance Designers with Die Design related issues.

     

    What Will You Do?

    • Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout drawings and detail drawings for complex progressive/secondary dies, four slide tooling, fixtures, assembly units and gages necessary for producing new and refining existing products, using computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software.
    • Reviews product specifications and engineering blueprints, confers with engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost. Modifies tool designs according to trial runs or production service data to improve tool life, tool performance, customer service or part quality.
    • Determines and reviews all tool room manufacturing processes for effectiveness and feasibility.
    • Design of Troubleshoot and solve tooling and engineering problems. Recommend solutions and answers to correct the problem.
    • Analyze and development new tooling procedures and standards to benefit the designer, tool builder and final product.
    • Leads Kaizen efforts and helps to develop new standards and processes to improve the flow of work in the tool room work areas.
    • Give assistance to the build and manufacture of tooling so that the build will be done in an economical and correct fashion.
    • Developing and learning new techniques and processes on the Cad system and on the manufacturing floor to further enhance our new tooling and existing tooling.
    • Performs other similar and related duties as required.

     

    Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications 

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • 8+ years experience in tooling/die design with progressive metal stamping design designing new tools and enhancing and or repairing  existing tools.
    • 8+ years of CAD experience
    • Minimum 3 years' Die Design experience using Solidworks or SolidEdge
    • Experience coordinating and implementing die design schedule including daily tracking
    • Troubleshooting of die related problems
    • Ability to do analysis and feedback of die design improvements
    • Die process layout
    • Ability to Die design paperwork including purchase orders, tracking sheets and release documents

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Solidworks plus
    • Strong background in design of stamping and progressive dies as well as good working knowledge of lean manufacturing.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.
    • Able to evaluate situations, identify options and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently.
