    Legrand has an exciting career opportunity for a Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineer to join the Finelite Team in Union City, CA. The individual in this role will work within the Lean Operations department. They will provide existing and new product design support to directly impact manufacturing efficiencies in the factory.  The candidate will also maximize production efficiency by analyzing equipment layout, workflow design, assembly methods (including hand tools, assembly equipment, and fabrication saws), and work force utilization.  The candidate will partner with Engineering to implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), New Product Introductions (NPIs), sustainable engineering practices, manufacturing process improvements, and all activities through product obsolescence.  Reporting to the Director of Lean/Facilities, the position spearheads product design feedback to support production efficiencies while maintaining process control, proper tools, and work instructions.  The candidate will liaison between Operations management and Engineering and therefore required a high degree of collaboration, planning, communication, and production execution.

    Basic Qualificatios:

    • BS in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
    • 5+ years of broad technical mechanical engineering experience in high volume manufacturing environment utilizing CAD. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • MS and/or MBA is preferred.
    • Solidworks preferred
    • High mix, high output manufacturing environment is preferred. 
    • Plastics knowledge is a plus.
    • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of the product life cycle, including design, manufacturing, quality and end-of-life. 
    • Experience with CNC programming a plus (e.g. MasterCam, GeoPath).
    • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Visio.
    • Full understanding of industry best practice for mechanical design for manufacturability and testability. 
    • Ability to work with production groups from both an advisory and development role.
    • Full understanding of product costing as it relates to component and manufacturing process selection. 
    • Familiar with lean manufacturing techniques as well as six sigma concepts.
    • Experience in technical problem solving, analytics, and quality reporting.
    • Experience in production line training and work instruction documentation.
    • Excellent communications skills: presentation, influencing peers and other department leaders.
    • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to adjust to changing priorities with enthusiasm.
    • Able to exercise independent judgment and possess a high degree of personal initiative.
    • Operate in a team environment and thrive in a diverse culture.
    • Work environment is a combination of office and manufacturing facility. Light physical effort with occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.







    Position Attributes

    Essential Functions:

    •  Contribute and support.
      • Provide mechanical assembly feedback for new product design.
      • Participate in existing product design changes/efficiency improvement (Playbook).
      • Facilitate NPIs – plans, documents, communicates, and trains in Production.
      • Support ECOs – tracks, documents, communicates, and enforces in Production.
      • Support OMSs (Operations Methods Sheets) – maintains product process and work instruction documentation (revise existing and create new documentation as needed via Engineering and/or Production).
      • Troubleshoot and resolve technical assembly issues on the factory floor.
    • Evaluate manufacturing/machining processes; product design knowledge, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; liaison w/ equipment vendors; solicit observations from operators.  Work w/ Production and engineering to implement material and/or labor method improvements.
    • Improve manufacturing/machining efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
    • Partner w/ Production Control and IT to identify and correct BOM (Bill of Materials)/pick list errors, technical drawing conflicts between submittals and WOs (Work Orders), especially w/ custom orders.
    • Participate in “ad-hoc” manufacturing problems and use root cause analysis to problem solve, train, document, and revise issue cause(s).
    • Support Operations-based Capital Expenditures documentation and factory expense reports
