    Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Prototype Technician to join the Lighting Sector in Union City, CA. The Prototype Shop Technician works with our Engineering and Product Development teams to build high-quality, energy-efficient luminaires and lighting systems. This is a full-time, salaried non-exempt position working out of our Union City facility.

    Basic Qualifications:


    • Technical degree with 2+ years of fabrication prototype shop experience utilizing 3D printers


    • High School Diploma with 4+ years or fabrication prototype shop experience utilizting 3D printers

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Experience with Solidworks
    • Experience with basic shop tools (saws, breaks, shears, drilling, sanding, etc.) as well as wood, plastic and metalworking tools/ equipment
    • Assembly experience (adhesive assembly, nuts & bolts)
    • CAD/CAM experience (create tooling paths in Vectric Cut2D and Cut3D, MasterCAM etc. software) a plus
    • Basic electrical circuit knowledge a plus  
    • Proven portfolio showing attention to detail and diverse project experience



    • Must Provide a Portfolio of at least 4 project work examples that demonstrate the required skills.

    Position Attributes

    Essential Functions                                           

    • Responsible for the shop facility as well as scheduling, prioritizing, and fabricating pending prototypes.
    • Help the Engineering department bring new products to the market and support our customer’s needs through customization and support of existing luminaires.
    • Product Development:
      • Take part in various levels of prototypes from early concept phase to custom options of existing luminaries.
      • Opportunity to fabricate, assemble, and wire prototype luminaires.
