    At a Glance


    Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer to join the Finelite Team in Union City, CAThe Quality Engineer is instrumental in ensuring Finelite produces a high quality product by preventing and resolving quality issues with our world class lighting products and systems.  This is a very hands-on role where you will work with and meet a variety of vendor/supplier partners in person, and will assemble and validate prototypes.  Works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Inside Sales and suppliers to find and thoroughly resolve quality issues both before and after they arise. This role reports to the Director of Quality and interfaces with all departments within Finelite.



    What Will You Do?



    1. Quality Assurance Engineering:
    • Lead effort to, or contribute to the design, installation and evaluation of quality assurance process sampling systems, procedures and statistical techniques.
    • Devise sampling procedures and design and develop forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
    • Gather facts, determine root cause, develop solutions, and manage implementation of corrective actions.
    • Take complete responsibility for projects from identification to closure; projects may be of any size and include interface with internal and external individuals.
    • Develop systems-based solutions to quality problems.
    • May assist Field Services Team with technical support to find short and long term solutions to problems that occur after shipment. 
    • Support concurrent engineering, participating in design development projects representing QA, customers and suppliers. May participate in new product Design and Readiness Reviews.
    • May lead preventive actions and other improvement activities internally, and at suppliers.
    • Track and analyze quality performance metrics and develop actions for continuous improvement.
    • Assist with determination of product acceptability and standards improvement.
    • Design or specify inspection and testing mechanisms, setups, equipment and procedures.
    • Recommend revision of specifications when indicated.
    • Formulate or help formulate quality assurance policies and procedures.
    • Assist with the development and administration of Continuous Improvement programs.
    • May conduct training on quality assurance concepts and tools.
    • Provide assistance to those tasked with performing Root Cause Analysis and developing/ implementing Corrective Actions.
    • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives on quality problems with quality assurance and insures that effective corrective action is implemented.
    • Assist with interpreting and meeting UL or regulatory requirements as required.
    • May perform and report on internal and/or external quality system audits.
    • Provide leadership of Field Service crews at customer sites; may travel to customers and suppliers to solve problems.
    • Make or assist with non-conforming material disposition decisions.
    • May assess potential new suppliers. May conduct Supplier Audits.
    • Assists with establishment of supplier quality requirements



    1. Project Management:
    • Be able to work effectively on multiple critical projects at the same time.
    • Communicate project schedule and progress to the Director of Quality.
    • Adept at analyzing complex problems and presenting the key points to upper management.




    Required Skills


    • BS in Mechanical, Industrial Technology, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical, or other engineering/ technology degree.
    • Minimum 1 year related experience in a quality related role with strong working knowledge of quality principles applied in a manufacturing environment.

    Preferred Skills

    • Proven knowledge in mechanical and electrical technology.
    • ASQ certification desired.
    • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assemblies and basic manufacturing processes.
    • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • A goal oriented personality with the ability to execute project work to closure.
    • Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
    • Process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment desired.
    • Ability to read engineering drawings and simple wiring diagrams.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulatory standards, company standards and procedures, product data sheets, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions.
    • The ability to multitask and think creatively with minimal direction in a dynamic environment.
    • Electrical troubleshooting experience desired.
    • Quality auditing experience desired.
    • 5-10% business travel, mostly local.
