    Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Data Communications Division in Farmingdale, NY

    Responsible for internal sales and support of the Legrand sales programs/initiatives and qualifying trade show leads, with a proactive sales effort to solicit and develop new customer relationships and revenue growth opportunities.

    What Will You Do?

    • Develop a manufacturable package after considering company or customer concepts or problems or by interpreting blueprints in a cost effective and practical manner
    • Conceive, design, detail and construct various mechanical components and assemblies using CAD program
    • Create SOP drawings, depicting necessary manufacturing information needed to completely and accurately fabricate parts
    • Design around standard tooling and determine material types and gauges using standard in stock material
    • Produce process sheets to provide instruction for the proper manufacturing sequences
    • Maintain continuous communication with the appropriate personnel on complex manufacturing areas
    • Create flat patterns to aid in Quality Control inspection of CNC equipment and create punching and laser programs or nests as needed
    • Integrate custom and commercial components into a finished product
    • Participate in maintaining detailed and comprehensive records of all ideas, designs, and basic improvements
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required
    • Minimum of 3 years of design experience is required
    • Familiarity with sheet metal manufacturing practices and systems is preferred
    • Knowledge of computerized and manual drafting techniques and effectively utilize 3D computerized drawing/design package
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
    • Ability to perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, etc. to support design decisions
    • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including designing for machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, and injection molding is required
    • Solid estimating, marketing and sheet metal strategy skills are required
    • Ability to think strategically, exercise good judgment and proactively provide innovative ideas is required
    • Strong relationship building skills, organizational, prioritization skills and presentation skills are required
    • Ability to foster teamwork and a collaborative atmosphere is required

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to arrive promptly for shift and stand and/or walk 50% of the time
    • Ability to hear, speak, kneel, bend and use a step ladder or stool
    • Capable of working in a manufacturing environment
