Position Description

LNCA has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join the Finelite team in Union City, CA. Responsible for managing EH&S programs across all Finelite campuses in Union City & Livermore, CA, the position implements safety programs strategized toward zero injuries and world class performance, plans and/or delivers programs to train managers and employees in workplace safety practices, and promotes facility/factory safety by working with all departments to analyze current conditions and recommend safety improvements. Analyzes accident data to identify trends and accident types that can be prevented, leads the Finelite/LNCA Safety Committee, and spear-heads external safety events and audits. Monitor OSHA required records and reports, coordinate compliance driven safety activities, monitor individual safety committee actions and verify effectiveness, monitor safety training both for compliance and effectiveness. Lead ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 programs at all sites. Ensure that environmental and life safety compliance becomes part of the culture at each site.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Develop, manage and maintain Finelite’s EH&S programs to include improvement, prevention and compliance.
  • Develop and manage ongoing ergonomic assessments, evaluations, and continuous improvement processes to reduce work/job-related Musculoskeletal Disorders.
  • Design and implement training programs required by all applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Lead Finelite/LNCA Sustainability and Environmental goals.
  • Provide direction to factory management on EH&S budgets and policies.
  • Assist HR Manager in all Workers’ Compensation-related injuries/illnesses, focusing on workplace safety prevention and ergonomics program, while utilizing and enhancing light-duty program.
  • Identify and address unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, hazards, and environmental risks in your respective work area(s) and evaluate the ensuing correction(s).
  • Inspect facilities, machinery and safety equipment in order to identify for preemptive action any potential hazards and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Lead incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and creation of corrective action plans.
  • Direct, lead and motivate facility personnel to achieve EH&S goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner. Create a team atmosphere where all leaders are encouraged to actively participate and support safety and environmental goals.
  • Ensure that EH&S compliance requirements are met by managing measurements and metrics, reporting, analysis, follow up and record keeping as mandated.
  • Align LNCA and local EH&S goals and strategies.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives regarding EH&S policies and programs.
  • Facilitate and lead training events, EH&S activities, process improvements, visual controls and other ad hoc programs as appropriate.
  • Ensure outside contractor personnel working on-site are in compliance with all LNCA and applicable regulatory policies/requirements.
  • Develop working relationship with regulatory agencies and be primary point of contact for site inspections.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Dept. and provide administrative support.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule and Saturdays, as needed.
  • The above duties are representative, but not necessarily all-inclusive and responsibility for other tasks, as assigned, may be necessary.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferable Environmental Health & Safety or related discipline) or will consider 5 years' related work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) or more years of work experience focused on EH&S, preferably in high-volume manufacturing.  Experience ensuring compliance with Local, Federal, State and OSHA regulations.

Preferred Skills

  • Facilities maintenance and/or construction trade experience is a plus.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and 45001.
  • Bilingual is a plus.
  • Environmental or Safety Certifications preferred.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and pays close attention to detail.
  • Competent in Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities as well as to evaluate situations, identify options and implement effective solutions quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels within the organization. Ability to create a team approach to EH&S at all facilities.
  • Able to work independently as well as within a variety of teams.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Must have good verbal and written communications skills, and be able to create effective reports and business correspondence.
