Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sales Engineer to join the Data, Power & Control Division Team.  This is a remote position.


This position is primarily responsible for providing frontline technical, pre-sales support to our Sales team. It also plays a key role in collaboratively interfacing with prospects and customers
to understand their technical requirements and provide solutions to address their needs. The Sales Engineer will interact with many Approved team members, including Sales, Engineering,
Supply Chain, Customer Service, and Operations.


What Will You Do?


  • Provide initial technical subject matter expertise to the Sales Team, Sales Rep. Agencies, Channel Partners, prospects, and customers.
  • Design solutions and prepare diagrams to present the same for customer approvals and submittals.
  • Prepare complete RFP and RFI responses working with a cross-functional team.
  • Proactively partner with the Sales Team to meet financial and activity metrics.
  • Make recommendations and coordinate resources to move opportunities forward, determine additional technical training needs, and resolve customer technical issues.
  • Contribute to development of prospect/customer meetings and opportunity management strategies and planning.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers, and gain customer trust with professionalism, constructive advice, integrity and candid, open communications.
  • Communicate “Value” in the form of cost/benefit analysis presentations to buying influencers at all levels (senior leadership and other influencers/decision makers).
  • Provide timely advice to customers regarding the specification, installation, and use of products in a variety of applications.
  • Contribute to the success of new product launches by defining customer needs, anticipating and identifying obstacles and solutions, assuring compatibility and interoperability, and coordinating testing, qualification, and field trials.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in all internal and external functions and processes.
  • Understand market issues and trends influencing selection, utilization, and optimization of optical networking equipment, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant industry technologies, applications, and standards.
  • Research and understand competitive landscape, communicate competitive and market intelligence to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner, and partner with others to develop successful tactics and strategies that differentiate solutions and establish competitive advantage.
  • Travel up to 40%, including joint prospect/customer calls with Sales, Engineering/Product Line Management, and Leadership.
  • Document prospect and customer contact information in HubSpot CRM in a full, complete and timely fashion.


Required Skills


Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Experience: A minimum of 2 years sales support experience in data center industry and/or manufacturing related field.


  • Proven success in a prior Solutions Architect or Technical Sales Support position(s).
  • Technical acumen and broad knowledge of optical networking equipment and network architectures/topologies.
  • Experience working with HubSpot or other CRM(s), Visio, AutoCAD or other drawing tools.
  • Excellent internal and external communication and presentation sills, and an outstanding ability to establish credibility and influence others.
  • Consultative sales skills and familiarity with sales process/methodologies.
