Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Shipping Lead to join the Lighting Sector Finelite Team in Union City, CA. The Shipping Lead will take a leadership role in keeping our customer commitments for fast turn-around shipments. Work with the Shipping Supervisor to plan, estimate and execute the arrival, loading and departure of shippers for our custom pallets, up to 162” long. You will be assist and take the lead for the efficient start up of daily production activities, coordination of the production schedule for shipping teams, administration of safety practices, assist new employees with training and help lead other employees in all aspects of shipping our fixtures.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Partner with the Shipping Supervisor to ensure all jobs are estimated accurately and the proper carrier identified. Our non-standard pallets and rack shipping require excellent visualization and load estimating skills.
  • Ensure orders are loaded on the designated carrier with the proper bill of lading, packing slip, hardware kit and documentation.
  • Using the Work Order Management System (WOMS), reviews the daily schedule and prioritizes and assigns jobs to specific employees.
  • Solicits rate quote bids from transportation carriers for each shipment; assigns and communicates those assignments to specific carriers, includes Less Than Truckload (LTT), range of sizes, small to large carriers with delivery across the US.
  • Coordinates workflows with Hardware Kit assembly team and the Material Handler team to ensure every job moves out according to the schedule.
  • Creates Bills of Lading to accompany every job; calculates insurance as needed, distributes copies to all the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Updates WOMS; creates and distributes the End of Day shipping report.
  • Assists in the loading of trucks and operates a forklift.
  • Organizes work assignments - assigns employees to each job, anticipates future work needs, recommends scheduling requirements to supervisor and informs supervisor of sick calls.
  • Maintains daily forklift check logs. Ensures that all forklift safety procedures are adhered to and keeps track of all maintenance/mechanical repairs for each lift.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements, Education & Experience

  • 2 years of experience in Logistics (Manufacturing/Production background a plus).
  • High School diploma or equivalent (college degree a plus).
  • Thrive in a fast-paced warehouse environment, juggle multiple and changing priorities, react to change yet refocus quickly on the priorities at hand.
  • Proven self-started with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated time management skills, along with high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal & written) to interface with workers, supervisors, vendors and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to provide effective work direction and promote respect amongst employees.
  • Demonstrated history of “team commitment / team building skills”.
  • Ability to use WOMS, Excel, Word, email and associated computer functions; 10-key a plus.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Forklift certified and able to use basic hand tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs using proper lifting techniques.

Pay: $25.75/hr.
