Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Planning Manager to join the Data, Power & Control Division in Reno, NV.

 

Under the direction of the Director of Manufacturing Operations, the Planning Manager will lead, coach, and mentor the planning team in all essential functions of the planning department including Master Production Schedule, buying and managing for contract manufacturers, S&OP demand, and forecasting. The Planning Manager needs to have advanced knowledge to utilize system tools inclusive of material requirements and capacity planning to ensure that the supply chain is effective in meeting the needs of our customers while maintaining required delivery and inventory goals. The Planning Manager has a significant impact on customer service and production activity and therefore must be a creative thinker with sound decision-making ability that acts with the customer in mind.

 

The Planning Manager will ensure that all assigned duties are performed with the highest quality, efficiently, and according to the established departmental and company policies, procedures, and goals. The Planning Manager, as with all members of the Power, Access & Control Team (PAC), is expected to promote a positive work environment, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

 

 

Main Job Duties:

  • Assist the Production Control Manager and Purchasing Manager in developing and maintaining the Resource Requirements Plan and Rough-cut Capacity Plan to support the company’s revenue and operational goals.
  • As directed, provide input to senior management to establish and attain strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, and Engineering in launching new products to support the company’s strategic goals.
  • Analyze forecasted demand to ensure safety stock and strategic inventory levels on finished goods and semi-processed goods are maintained.
  • Prepare S&OP meeting agenda and lead meeting discussion.
  • Maintain material master records that pertain to planning data in the ERP system including developing and processing planning bills of material.
  • Coordinate with Contract Manufacturers (CM) to order and schedule finished goods and subassemblies, set priorities, communicate on components issues, and act as a general liaison for PAC and CM needs.
  • Provide regular updates to customer service teams to meet or exceed customer expectations and establish effective relationships.
  • Expedite critical orders throughout the supply chain.
  • Maintain internal electronic communication (chatter) on open customer opportunities and provide input at S&OP meetings.
  • Manage and maintain inventory levels to ensure an uninterrupted supply of parts while maintaining optimal inventory levels; ensure customer reliability and meet target inventory turns.
  • Initiate and participate in continuous improvement activities related to production planning, customer service, and inventory management.
  • Perform planning functions required to achieve the timely and successful launch of new products and, as assigned, participate in new product development teams.
  • Facilitate the development and tracking of key metrics to ensure established goals are achieved.
  • Aid in the development of the department budget and monitor performance and adherence.
  • Actively participate in ongoing company cost reduction efforts.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Participate in staff selection/interview process. Oversee recruiting, hiring, and training of planning staff.
  • Supervise and provide support and direction to all planning staff. Resolve personnel issues and support team building with positive and open communication.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and work instructions to support all department functions necessary for achieving corporate goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University with emphasis in Supply Chain Management, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience within the supply chain function, preferably in planning/scheduling in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role with direct responsibility for department budgets.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and original/creative problem-solving skills.
  • APICS Basic Certification or in the progress of obtaining APICS Basic Certification preferred.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP), certification preferred.
  • Project management skills including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks along with excellent time management skills and customer service skills.
  • Computer proficient with working knowledge of MRP/ ERP software and Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint), experience with Salesforce.com preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Production, Finance, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
