Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Test Engineer to join the Data Center Power and Control Division Team in Reno, NV. The Sr. Test Engineer will use knowledge of electrical theory to test, characterize, and debug low-voltage and high-voltage power distribution systems. The Sr. Test Engineer will coordinate basic and routine test activities between engineering and manufacturing to achieve the test objectives in a timely manner. This position will document all important aspects of the setup, performance, and results of the testing. The Sr. Test Engineer will ensure that all assigned duties are performed quickly, efficiently, and according to the established departmental and company policies, procedures, and goals.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Develop and execute system-level procedures to be used for testing, validating, and characterizing new single-phase and multi-phase PDU designs and existing PDU products that exhibit problems.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive engineering test, characterization, reliability, and margin plans for printed circuit board assemblies.
  • Collaborate with peers to manage the development of test parameters to verify PDU products meet internal and external requirements.
  • Develop test fixtures and circuits required to execute engineering tests, validation, and characterization plans.
  • Generate code and test scripts to be used to run automated tests and data collection.
  • Write engineering reports and create presentations to document and communicate test, characterization, reliability, statistical analysis, and margin results along with recommended corrective actions.
  • Recommend design changes based on internal and external customer feedback.
  • Work with the Electrical Engineering Team and Project Management to determine the root cause of system-level validation failures and propose solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews of printed circuit boards and electro-mechanical assemblies. Review design for complete specifications and testability.
  • Contribute to inventions, new designs, and techniques regarded as advances in the power distribution/scientific community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University with emphasis in Electrical Engineering or comparable experience or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 7 years of Electrical Engineering experience and/or Validation Engineering experience in a large volume production environment, preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Ability to use electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, electronic loads, meters, function generators, spectrum analyzers, and multi-phase test equipment.
  • Must be fluent in one or more scripting languages.
  • Must be comfortable working on live high-voltage circuits and systems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong internet networking skills and protocol knowledge are required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Engineering, Product Management, and Sales.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Project management skills including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 standards and audit process.

Work environment is fast-paced and priorities can shift quickly. All employees are expected to go outside their primary responsibilities when required, and multi-task job duties on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
