Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Tool & Die Maker to join the Wiremold Team in West Hardtford, CT.

 

The Tool and Die Maker will provide production support through tool and die making activities.

 

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Qualified candidates must have 5 years' experience in new build/repair and troubleshooting of dies, experience and ability to work with progressive or transfer dies, the ability to work well in a team environment, the ability to provide detailed documentation on tooling issues and component prints, self-motivation and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Fabricates a range of tools including but not limited to tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, metal machine parts, die parts, roll form tools, punches, form tools, cams, and special tools; performs precision grinding, boring, or polishing of special tools and dies.
  • Assembles any manufactured parts into working production machines or machine subassemblies.
  • Uses both engineering blueprints and specifications as well as verbal instruction to produce and assemble dies, machines, jigs and components.
  • Sets up and operates all applicable machine tools and machinist’s hand tools.
  • Diagnoses and repairs production equipment and tools.
  • Makes own setups on CNC equipment including but not limited to programming by either CAD based or machine code programs.
  • Performs Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) schedules and assignments as required for the tools and machines used in the performance of this function.
  • Maintains all materials, tools and equipment in good repair and maintains orderly condition of work area consistent with 5 C practices and the Wiremold Production System.
  • Records information required for analysis and decision making including, but not limited to equipment performance, quality and productivity.
  • Complies with all OSHA and Company safety procedures and works in a safe manner to insure both personal safety and safety to others.
  • Performs all assignments with attention to quality standards of workmanship.
  • Reports current or potential problems or malfunctions that may affect assignment or operation of equipment.
  • May train others in repair and safe operation of equipment.
  • Performs other work as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must know how to use all applicable tools and measuring devices to perform the work.
  • Must maintain current licensing or certification required for the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Must know and follow all applicable OSHA and Company safety policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams as needed.
  • Must be able to solve mathematical equations.
  • Must be able to read and follow established job procedures and check lists.

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Bending body downward/forward by bending spine at the waist
  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s)
  • Bending the body downward/forward by bending leg/spine
  • Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
  • Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time
  • Moving about on foot, particularly for long distances
  • Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position
  • Picking, pinching, typing or working with primarily the fingers
  • Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
  • Verbalizing detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly
  • Applying substantial movement/motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner

Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Using arm/leg controls requiring exertion of forces greater than that required for sedentary work.

 

Physical Surroundings

  • Subject to inside environmental conditions, with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Subject to sufficient noise to cause one to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Subject to a variety of hazards including moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Subject to one or more of the following conditions: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

Visual Acuity: Dealing with data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects/parts, operation or machines, using measurement devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
