Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Product Quality Engineer to join the Data Center Power & Control Division Team in Reno, NV. The Product Quality Engineer will participate in continuous improvement activities, support suppliers, customers, and internal functions including Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test & Validation.  This position will also establish and sustain the use of the quality system metrics and tools.

 

The Product Quality Engineer will ensure that all assigned duties are performed quickly, efficiently, and according to the established departmental and company policies, procedures, and goals. This position is expected to promote a positive work environment, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Execute the Quality Assurance strategy to ensure product flow consistent with established industry standards, government regulations and various customer requirements.
  • Collect and analyze quality data, identify problem areas, recommend solutions, and coordinate / facilitate corrective action to control costs and achieve established quality objectives for external failures, scrap, problem orders and related performance measures.
  • Perform root cause analysis and provide solutions to correct immediate quality related concerns as well as oversee implementation of long-term solutions.
  • Monitor and coordinate quality engineering functions including inspection, testing, repair, and auditing. Maintain required quality records and documentation to verify that all quality and manufacturing systems and processes meet or exceed industry standards and/or customer specifications.
  • Process Continuous Improvements to determine and implement best practices in all processing areas to improve quality.
  • Audit, qualify and approve new product suppliers.
  • Analyze engineering changes to determine impact to supplier processes and tooling.
  • Support supplier to develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product design specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide engineering support to maintain a system to evaluate and ensure that vendors and suppliers meet or exceed established quality policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Apply engineering and manufacturing technical knowledge to help improve supplier activities that can help Server Technology’s quality, delivery, and cost performance objectives.
  • Develop capability studies, advanced product quality planning (APQP), process failure mode effect analysis (PFMEA), and statistical process controls (SPC).
  • Provide answers to field technical questions from suppliers and determine the appropriate action to be taken.
  • Host and support Internal, Customer, Supplier and Third-Party Audits as required.
  • Analyze, audit, and report quality performance and trends for product and processes.
  • Provide input for quality requirements to Design and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Provide evaluation and disposition of First Articles.

Qualifications

Required Skills

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with emphasis in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:  

  • Minimum 5 years of related manufacturing experience with at least 2 years in the quality function; ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication processes and associated tooling; PCBA manufacturing including SMT pick and place, and wave solder; and wire harness manufacturing and termination assembly.
  • Previous work experience of problem-solving methods such as: Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and the associated statistical tools used to analyze problems, evaluate, and complete improvement projects.
  • Strong familiarity with the application of IPC A-610D. ASTM, Six Sigma certification or significant experience with Six Sigma process improvement desirable.
  • Project management skills including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity of ISO 9001:2015 standards and audit process.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
