Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Engineer to join the Data Center Power & Control Division Team in Reno, NV. The Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Engineer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations as well as developing and implementing Legrand sustainability objectives for the products. This position will require engineering analysis of the products and their constituent materials and provide proactive support and response to internal and external environmental, component and sustainability related requests. The Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Engineer is expected to perform job duties quickly, efficiently and according to the established departmental, company policies, procedures and goals.

 

The ideal candidate will have an engineering background and experience in environmental compliance and sustainability. The Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Engineer, as with all members of the Server Technology Team, is expected to promote a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
  • Implement and maintain sustainability, environmental management systems to improve environmental performance and reduce impacts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement design-related solutions to reduce waste, conserve energy, and minimize environmental impacts.
  • Manage relationships with external environmental consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure product and component compliance to the Legrand Eco-Design & Environmental Material Requirements (EMR) as well as ISO 14001.
  • Execute reporting and respond to environmental and sustainability requests to support internal and external customers.
  • Stay up to date on developments in environmental regulations through participation in internal committees, external training, and research.
  • Assist in the qualification of components, circuit designs, and products with an emphasis on environmental compliance and sustainability.
  • Support execution of engineering changes, lifecycle changes, and document changes in our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
  • Promote positive company relations by projecting a courteous, helpful attitude and assisting colleagues when appropriate.
  • Display willingness to make decisions; Exhibit sound and accurate judgment; Support and explain reasoning for decisions; Include appropriate people in decision-making process (specifically Department Managers); Make timely decisions.
  • This position requires minimal travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Technical/Professional Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or comparable experience or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience with environmental compliance and sustainability for electrical/electronic products a plus.
  • Knowledge of AC power distribution a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Engineering, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/Access).
  • Proficient with Enterprise Product Lifecycle Management applications
  • Familiarity of ISO 9000 standards and audit process.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

 

Work environment is fast-paced and priorities can shift quickly.  All employees are expected to go outside their primary responsibilities when required, and multi-task job duties on a regular basis.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
