Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to join our Global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team.

 

The job will be remote with ~50% travel required within the US and Mexico. This role will develop, implement, transfer, and maintain manufacturing processes required to meet the needs of the operation for both existing and new products. Utilizes and supports individual, team, and quality/process improvement efforts. Functions as a manufacturing process expert, industrialization engineer, and key member of strategic projects executing large capital-intensive projects to reshape and transform Legrand Operations. May also function as a project manager for specific projects when appropriate. Provides cost estimates to the NPD design team; works with Sourcing and Operations teams to evaluate and identify productivity improvement projects. Advocates for clearly documented product designs capable of robust/cost effective/repeatable manufacturing and assures that the manufacturing processes and supply chain meets requirements for process capability, safety, customer service, reliability, and cost.

 

Role:  

  • Serve as the lead engineering/technical resource on strategic projects executing large capital-intensive projects to reshape and transform Legrand Operations.
  • Develop manufacturing processes which meet manufacturing requirements for safety, ergonomics, process capability, service, quality, and cost. Present and help develop concept project proposals and business cases.
  • Coordinate and work with plant manufacturing engineering and operations, suppliers, project managers, and other team members to develop project timelines, identify and mitigate risk, and communicate status regularly to Sr. Leadership. 
  • Use data and analytics, feedback from manufacturing leaders, supervisors, maintenance activities, operators, and personal observation to identify opportunities for improvement and operational excellence.
  • Promote lean manufacturing, participate in or lead process improvement initiatives, identify improvement opportunities for safety, cost, ergonomics, quality, and process capability improvements.
  • Monitor and assure processes and projects are and continue to be compliant with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Audit both administrative and engineering controls and communicate findings, take corrective action, and design/implement engineered solutions when appropriate to maintain effective compliance.
  • Ensure assigned projects and processes can produce at or above required quality levels. 
  • Perform root cause analyses, take corrective actions, and design/implement engineered solutions when appropriate to maintain effective compliance.
  • Develop and document manufacturing methods. Plan and establish sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products to promote efficient utilization. Generate layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency. Assure all documentation is archived and maintained in accordance with standard practice. Train maintenance and operating associates on new and revised process procedures. Assure production rates are achievable and routinely repeatable by capable operators.

 

Qualifications

Profile:

 

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and/or Manufacturing Engineering.
 
Experience: 5 or more years of hands-on experience in a project execution-oriented manufacturing engineering capacity.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, Safety, Industrial Engineering Skills sets, including communication, verbal, written, and mechanical drafting.
  • Demonstrated record of successfully executing complex equipment installation projects involving robotics and automation.
  • Thorough understanding of high speed automated and technology assisted assembly methods and equipment including operator mistake proofing, test, and verification practices.
  • Knowledgeable in plastic injection molding and stamping processes. Sheet metal fabrication, punching, stamping, forming, and associated tooling as well as secondary metal finishing processes a plus.
  • This position requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, organize, and accomplish a diversified workload. Is self-motivated and enthusiastically executes responsibilities with high energy and without extensive external direction.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically CAD, MRP, word processing, presentation software, spreadsheets, and project management software.
  • Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment promoting an environment that encourages cohesiveness, fosters trust and open communication with team, peers, and all business partners.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions.  Must be able to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus, extract necessary information, and validate understanding of the information.
  • Must possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines, and control several projects at various stages of work.
  • Must possess a valid passport and be willing and able to travel internationally.
  • Spanish language fluency is highly desirable as this role will be regularly interacting with and executing projects with Legrand teams based in Mexico.
