Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Product Safety Engineer to join the Data, Power and Control Team in Reno, NV.

 

The Product Safety Engineer will evaluate, test, and certify power distribution units, sub-assemblies, and accessories in accordance with International Product Safety Standards.  This position will assist, identify, and resolve product safety issues along with providing timely and accurate test reports and information. The Product Safety Engineer will have a background in electrical/electronic engineering to support safety engineering and testing of Server Technology’s products.  The Product Safety Engineer is expected to perform job duties quickly, efficiently, and according to the established departmental and company policies, procedures, and goals.

 

The Product Safety Engineer, as with all members of the Server Technology Team, is expected to promote a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, and integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

Main Job Duties:

  • Perform in house safety evaluations of new and existing low voltage AC and DC power distribution products.
  • Collaborate with certification bodies and test laboratories to drive domestic and international safety projects to completion.
  • Participate in on-site factory inspections by certification bodies.
  • Develop appropriate test procedures to ensure product compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Validation & Test team to maintain our accredited Customer Testing Facility status.
  • Perform safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing on new and existing designs in-house or at third party laboratories.
  • Perform safety qualification testing of components, circuit designs, and products.
  • Support the sales team with requests from customers for safety related information.
  • Review new product releases for compliance and certification label correctness.
  • Assist in product and component compliance to the Legrand Environmental Material Requirements (EMR)
  • Promote positive company relations by projecting a courteous, helpful attitude and assisting colleagues when appropriate.

  • Limited travel is required.

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University with emphasis in Electrical Engineering or comparable experience or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience:  

  • Minimum of 2 years experience providing engineering support of electronic products and components.
  • Previous experience with UL/CSA/IEC 60950-1 or 62368-1 standards for Information Technology a plus.
  • Previous experience working with NRTL or certification bodies a plus.
  • EMC test lab experience and AC power distribution knowledge are a plus.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Project management skills including planning, organizing, meeting facilitation, and coordinating tasks.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Engineering, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/Access).
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Product Lifecycle Management applications
  • Familiarity of ISO 9000 and ISO 14001 standards and audit process.
  • EMC product testing and certification experience a plus.
  • Environmental compliance and component engineering experience a plus.

The work environment is fast-paced and priorities can shift quickly.  All employees are expected to go outside their primary responsibilities when required, and multi-task job duties regularly.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
