Position Description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Service Technician II to join the Data Center Power & Control Division Starline Team. This is a remote position based in Canonsburg, PA, Chicago, IL, or Texas area. The Service Technician II role will require a highly qualified individual to perform service work on Starline’s full complement of products at customer sites. Technician will work directly with end users and general contractors to ensure that all on-site products are functioning properly and tested prior to system startup. Service Technician must be willing and able to travel to all 48 contiguous states, as needed. The ideal candidate will be based the Western portion of the United States.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Travel to customer sites and give installation training presentations using both Power Point presentations and with hands-on demonstrations.
  • Execute a System Startup checklist while at a customer’s site which will include but is not limited to: visual inspection and verification of Busway installation, visual inspection of all joint connections, verification of meter functionality, ensure proper connections to end feed lugs, perform continuity testing on Busway system and verify plug-in unit installation.
  • Program Starline CPM meters at the customer site. Training will be provided to technicians on meter programming prior to performing on-site work.
  • Complete a startup certification report and a meter commissioning report. In each case, technician will be given a template to work from and required to enter data into appropriate fields.
  • Interact well with customers on the job site.
  • Obtain a Level 1 Thermography Certification in order to IR scan energized Busway components as part of routine service visits.
  • Split time between filed services and the production plant, located in Canonsburg, PA based on customer needs. Schedule may vary significantly.
  • Diagnose and repair on-site issues as required by end-users and contractors.

Qualifications

Required Skills

 

Education:           

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently working in production in some capacity.
  • One year of technical working knowledge of most Starline product lines.
  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Office and Windows.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to rent a vehicle.
  • Ability to obtain government mandated security clearances.
  • Ability to obtain a passport.
  • Experience using power and hand tools.
  • Basic knowledge and experience working on electrical components.
  • Willingness to complete mandated training and certification programs.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers verbally and in writing.
  • Basic MS Windows/MS Office experience – Word, Excel and Outlook in particular.
  • Service Oriented, actively looking for ways to help others.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills where you are able to use logic and reasoning to identify on-site product issues.
  • Product knowledge and familiarity with all Starline product lines.
  • Ability to present yourself professionally as an Starline representative, must act and dress the part. Tardiness to job sites, inappropriate or improper dress or any form of disrespect while on the job site will not be tolerated.
  • Ability to travel, both on an airplane as well as in a rental or personal vehicle to customer sites.
  • Must be willing to make overnight trips, staying in one location for up to four consecutive nights, or longer on a rare occasion.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Work performed at customer sites may be on active constructions sites, which will require, under certain areas; the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, specific footwear, mandatory hearing protection and electrical safety clothing as required on a site by site basis.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform work while standing on a ladder.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs occasionally; ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs daily.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • The ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position.
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Travel up to 90% of the time, when acting as a Service Technician, via car or airplane.
  • Ability to work long hours as needed at customer sites.
