Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer (Automation) to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Pass and Seymour Team in Concord, NC. This role involves overseeing both automated and manual equipment and processes across all production departments. The responsibilities include troubleshooting operational issues and developing and implementing solutions to enhance quality, productivity, and safety. The position requires a blend of independent work and collaboration on team projects to develop, assess, and validate new and existing production processes, tooling, documentation, and training for process technicians and setup personnel. Additionally, the role involves project management for machine upgrades and installations. The individual will also be responsible for designing, building, and implementing basic automated solutions in an assembly environment.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Create and design systems to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce human error, and enhance product quality.
  • Write and modify programs for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and other control systems.
  • Integrate new systems with existing production lines, ensuring seamless communication and efficient operation.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in systems and equipment.
  • Conduct tests to validate that systems are functioning correctly and meet performance standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation systems for better performance, cost-efficiency, and safety.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage automation projects, including machine upgrades, installations, and system expansions.
  • Work with other engineering teams, production staff, and vendors to ensure system functionality and resolve any technical issues. Provide technical support and training to production staff on new systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for systems including wiring diagrams, software code, and maintenance logs.
  • Ensure all systems comply with industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Required Skills

 

Education:

  • BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • 5-10 years related experience, manufacturing experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Must have strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Must be independently driven.
  • Must understand data and data validation and have the skill to use data to make educated business decisions.
  • Must be highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Must be proficient in Excel and SolidWorks (or some 3D modeling software).
  • Must have experience with designing and building automation.
  • Preferred to have knowledge of injection molding.
  • Preferred to have knowledge of lean manufacturing.
