Position Description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Global Controller to join the Data Power & Control in West Hartford, CT. The Global Controller is a key role within the Legrand Data, Power and Control Division finance department reporting to the Divisional VP of Finance.

 

This position provides day-to-day oversight and support of all core accounting in Legrand DPC globally including the financial close & reporting; internal controls and compliance; payroll & headcount reporting; balance sheet management; treasury and tax administration; and planning, forecasting & analysis of the company.  In this role, he/she will drive continuous improvement of processes to enhance the quality of financial information used by key stakeholders for strategic decision-making. This position will be directly responsible for a high-performing US-based accounting team of seventeen with three direct reports. In addition, two Accounting Controllers, in Germany and in Taiwan, will report dotted lines into this position for their accounting functional job requirements.

 

Main Job Duties:

  • Lead, develop, and manage the global accounting department as the division continues to scale. In addition, provide leadership to the business and support the commercial and operations teams in terms of technical reporting and operational accounting issues as the company continues its rapid growth.
  • Manage monthly financial accounting close and reporting and ensure compliance with statutory (eg: GAAP/IFRS) and company requirements, including balance sheet management of reconciliations and reporting for treasury and tax.
  • Provide strategic & visionary leadership and the ability to execute continuous improvement and simplification of our accounting practices to eliminate inefficiencies in our accounting processes, as we have rapidly grown through acquisitions and integrations.
  • Develop/maintain a robust and effective operating model to improve and review with management the internal controls and compliance environment. (Including delegation of authority, internal policies and procedures, remediations of findings, audits, tax and government authority communications, statutory reporting, etc).
  • Consistently support compliance by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable laws and regulations, and the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for Balance Sheet management including forecasting and reporting the balance sheet.
  • Responsible for banking and treasury activities and liaising with Legrand on cash management and forecasting.
  • Oversight of all legal entity statutory reporting and liaising with external auditors, Legrand, and management.
  • Oversight of all tax matters (including foreign jurisdictions) for statutory purposes and working closely with the Legrand tax department.
  • Responsibility for payroll reporting & detailed headcount reporting
  • Duties include oversight of General Accounting, Credit, Accounts Payable, and our outsourced Accounts Payable teams and improving processes and controls to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting.
  • Lead, hire, and develop a high-performing accounting team; build efficiencies into all aspects of accounting operations including systems and processes.
  • Oversight and review of all foreign financial consolidation submissions to ensure compliance and consistency with Legrand accounting policies and ensure consistent classification of accounting transactions across all legal entities.
  • Provide financial support to the planning/forecast processes via collaboration with Business Unit Finance Directors.
  • Responsible for advising and implementing any relevant technology upgrades and implementations.

Compensation:  $225,000-240,000

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance and/or Accounting required.
  • MBA/CPA strongly preferred (or similar equivalent).
  • +15 years of related experience / strong leader.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced experience with SAP ERP and BPC reporting viewed favorably.
  • Experience implementing/improving Finance IT systems viewed favorably.
  • Experience with Data Governance practices within an organization.
  • M&A experience, including post-acquisition integration experience.
  • Manufacturing experience in a multi-site, multi-currency environment preferred

Skill/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Strong technical and practical knowledge of GAAP accounting.
  • Drive compliance and demonstrate a strong grasp of internal control.
  • Experience and knowledge of general accounting, payroll accounting, treasury, and control requirements.
  • Must possess a high degree of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Desire to take initiative and proactively seek efficiencies.
  • Strong communication, organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and growing environment.
  • Motivated, self-starter who desires success.
  • Demonstrated ability to be customer-focused and responsive to questions and needs in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Detail-oriented and have excellent follow-through skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required (for most of the working day) to sit and make coordinated movements of the fingers for using a keyboard.
  • Occasional long-distance or air travel as needed - not to exceed 20% of the time.
