Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Testing Lab Supervisor to join the Kenall Team in Kenosha, WI. The Testing Lab Supervisor will lead and manage the daily operations of the product testing laboratory. This role is a working manager position, responsible for supervising lab technicians while actively performing compliance and performance tests on lighting products. The supervisor ensures all testing meets applicable UL standards (UL1598, UL8750, UL924, UL2108) and photometric testing requirements under ISO17025 accreditation.

 

What Will You Do?

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership & Oversight
    • Supervise and mentor test lab technicians, ensuring adherence to safety and quality protocols.
    • Schedule and prioritize testing activities to meet project timelines.
    • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
    • Maintain understanding of all current safety, NSF and IES standard requirements.
  • Hands-On Testing
    • Perform product safety compliance tests per UL, ANSI and IEC standards, including temperature, electrical, and mechanical evaluations.
    • Conduct photometric testing in accordance with ISO17025 standards.
    • Ensure accurate data collection, documentation, and reporting for all tests.
  • Compliance & Documentation
    • Maintain and update test procedures and records per Intertek Satellite Program requirements. 
    • Prepare data packages for new product compliance submissions and ensure timely completion of projects in accordance with product development timelines.
    • Ensure calibration and maintenance of lab equipment.
    • Coordinate internal and external audits of compliance for ISO17025 and ETL Satellite program.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with Engineering and Quality teams from Kenall and other Legrand Lighting brands to support their product development and certification requirements.
    • Provide technical guidance on design for compliance requirements during design reviews.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Active participation in ongoing individual training / development program.
  • Set goals and objectives with Manager; look for ways to improve quality and productivity.
  • Maintain good housekeeping conditions in lab and personal work area.
  • Follow safety rules and procedures.
  • Report abnormalities in equipment, machines, programs and processes.
  • Perform backup functions to other team members and to immediate supervisor as instructed.  Engage in cross-training to support backup efforts as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AS in technical electrical field.
  • Minimum 5 years related testing experience in a product development environment. Minimum 1 year in supervisory role preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of UL, CSA, NSF and IEC IP standards and testing procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills as required to discuss training, general direction and other position-related tasks.
  • Must be professional in appearance and attitude and possess the ability to work in a professional manner with customers and employees at all levels.
  • Computer literate including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Adobe Workfront etc.
  • Photometric software tools such as AGI32, Photometric Toolbox preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of IES Recommended Practices and the NEC for relevant lighting applications to Kenall preferred.
  • High level of self-initiative and dependability.
  • Must be flexible to perform overtime duties or adjust schedule when required.
  • Must be flexible and willing to pitch in as needed.
  • Resourceful and highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and balance multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Must possess positive, "can do" attitude.
  • Must be able to maneuver and lift a 50-pound lighting fixture unassisted.

  • Lab equipment including, but not limited to: voltmeters, ammeters, power analyzer, thermocoupling equipment, scale, caliper, micrometer, calculator, thermostat, integrating sphere, goniophotometer, hand-held light meter, spectrum analyzer, power hand tools, soldering equipment, table saws, band saws, data acquisition, etc.
