Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Product Quality Engineer to join the Data Center Power and Control Team in Reno, NV. The Product Quality Engineer will participate in continuous improvement activities, support suppliers, customers, and internal functions including Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test & Validation. This hybrid Quality and Manufacturing Engineering role includes the duties detailed below, in addition to other tasks assigned to meet business needs. The Product Quality Engineer, as with all members of the Legrand Team, is expected to promote a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

 

What Will You Do?

  • Execute the Quality Assurance strategy to ensure product flow is consistent with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Collect and analyze quality data; identify systemic issues; recommend and facilitate corrective actions to achieve quality objectives related to external failures, scrap, rework, and related performance metrics.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement containment, corrective, and preventive measures for immediate and long-term quality issues.
  • Monitor and coordinate quality engineering functions including inspection, testing, repair, and process auditing. Maintain required documentation to verify that processes meet or exceed industry and customer standards.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement initiatives to identify and implement best practices that enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze engineering changes (ECOs) to determine impact on supplier processes, tooling, and manufacturing capability.
  • Support suppliers and internal teams in developing and implementing optimal, cost effective manufacturing processes that align with design intent and quality standards.
  • Apply engineering and manufacturing expertise to improve supplier activities that positively influence quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Host and support internal, customer, supplier, and third party audits as required.
  • Analyze and report product and process quality performance trends.
  • Provide quality input to Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering during product development and process changes.
  • Evaluate and disposition First Articles.
  • Host and support Internal, Customer, Supplier and Third-Party Audits as required.
  • Assist in the development, optimization, and documentation of manufacturing processes, including work instructions, assembly methods, and standard work.
  • Support production teams with troubleshooting process issues related to assembly, tooling, equipment, or material flow.
  • Participate in NPI (New Product Introduction) activities, supporting builds, validation, and manufacturability feedback.
  • Lead or support equipment qualification, process validation, line layout improvements, and efficiency enhancements.
  • Provide internal factory support and Contract Manufacturer oversight, directly supporting CM activities (virtual coordination, onsite visits, or audits) as needed.
  • Monitor CM manufacturing processes, quality controls, and compliance to specifications.
  • Partner with CMs to resolve production issues, drive root cause analysis, verify corrective actions, and maintain process alignment with internal manufacturing.
  • Build and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with CM engineering, quality, and operations teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $ 80,000

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with emphasis in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience: Minimum 5 years of related manufacturing experience with at least 2 years in the quality function; ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), preferred.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication processes and associated tooling; PCBA manufacturing including SMT pick and place, and wave solder; and wire harness manufacturing and termination assembly.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
  • Previous work experience of problem-solving methods such as: Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and the associated statistical tools used to analyze problems, evaluate, and complete improvement projects.
  • Strong familiarity with the application of IPC A-610D. ASTM, Six Sigma certification or significant experience with Six Sigma process improvement desirable.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity of ISO 9001:2015 standards and audit process.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
