Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer (New Product Development) to join the Electrical Wiring Systems Pass and Seymour Team in Syracuse, NY. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will help design the next generation of electrical infrastructure used in homes, hospitals, data centers, and commercial buildings across North America.

This role goes beyond supporting designs — you will lead them.

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the development of high-volume electromechanical products from concept through production. You will work closely with product management, electrical engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and suppliers to create solutions that are innovative, manufacturable, and built to perform at scale.

If you enjoy solving complex mechanical problems, developing new product concepts, and seeing your designs move from prototype to high-volume production, this role offers the opportunity to do exactly that.

What Will You Do?

Lead new product development:

  • Drive the mechanical design of new electrical wiring devices from concept through production release. Your work will directly shape products installed in millions of buildings.

Translate customer needs into real products:

  • Work closely with Product Line Managers to convert customer insights, market trends, and code requirements into clear product specifications and engineering solutions.

Design innovative electromechanical systems:

  • Create sketches, CAD models, and prototypes to explore design approaches and refine them into production-ready products using SolidWorks and modern engineering tools.

Integrate electronics and connected technologies:

  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate PCBs, electrical systems, and IoT-enabled functionality into mechanical product designs.

Engineer for high-volume manufacturing:

  • Partner with advanced manufacturing teams, tooling engineers, and suppliers to optimize designs for cost, quality, and large-scale production.

Validate performance and reliability:

  • Advance designs through modeling, prototyping, testing, pilot builds, and design validation to ensure products meet performance expectations and safety requirements.

Deliver production-ready documentation:

  • Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, specifications, validation plans, and quality requirements.

Ensure regulatory and safety compliance:

  • Design products to meet UL requirements and other relevant standards while supporting certification testing and regulatory approval.

Drive innovation:

  • Identify opportunities for patentable technologies and collaborate with Legrand’s intellectual property team to protect new ideas.

Contribute to a strong engineering culture:

  • Share knowledge, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to continuously improve product development practices.

What Makes This Role Unique?

Ownership of Design:

  • You will take products from idea to production, with real influence on how they are engineered and manufactured.

Massive Product Scale:

  • Legrand products are installed in millions of buildings worldwide, giving your work real impact.

Cross-Disciplinary Engineering:

  • Work across mechanical design, electronics integration, manufacturing, tooling, and global supply chains.

Innovation Opportunities:

  • Engineers are encouraged to pursue new ideas and contribute to patentable innovations.

Sustainability Focus:

  • Legrand is committed to environmentally responsible design, including Eco-Design and ISO 14001 initiatives.
