The Mechanical Engineer Intern will provide support to the Engineering Department and will contribute to the commercialization, application, and customization of all Starline products. This position will work under clearly defined guidelines and close supervision of the Engineering Manager and other Mechanical Engineers. Responsible for product design and modification to meet customer needs. Position will also assist Program Manager in facilitating product planning and development. The Director of Engineering plans and directs staff to ensure that all assigned duties are performed quickly, efficiently and according to established safety standards as well as departmental and company policies, procedures and goals. Conduct analysis in the following categories: RoHs, California Proposition 65, REACH, Conflict Minerals, Living Building Challenge, VOC’s, Organohalogen Flame Retardants, Asbestos Content, Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and PFAS.- Develop and maintain product transparency documents: PEPs (Product Environmental Profiles) and HPDs (Health Product Declarations).- Advocate and subject matter expert of the legrand Way Eco Design process. The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for the design and implementation of opto-mechanical components and assemblies, including product test validation, for new products, product enhancements, and VAVE/cost savings. Works individually or as part of a design team to develop, evaluate, and validate product designs and specifications. Also conducts design reviews, validates and approves documentation packages, preproduction builds, and production transfers. Provides mentor guidance and support to engineering team members across disciplines. Main Job Duties: - Provide direction and project management for opto-mechanical design and test validation efforts. Work closely with Product Marketing, Manufacturing, and other Engineering personnel during product conceptualization phases and throughout the project phases.- Work closely with Project Management to schedule, track, and maintain up-to-date project schedules and milestone due-date requirements.- Provide maintenance of existing opto-mechanical products and documentation (design improvements, VAVE cost savings, etc.) and product databases through the Engineering Change process.- Coordinate internal rapid prototyping and production validation requirements using internal prototyping.- Coordinate with the internal Tooling Manager and Outside Design supplier.- Provide detailed test report summaries and analysis for all product test validation requirements.- Design and develop optomechanical systems and customized solutions, utilizing various methods such as injection molding, metal forming, casting, and extrusion processes.- Utilize 2D and 3D SolidWorks CAD systems to perform detailed design analysis, including kinematic and kinetic, structural, thermal, and finite element analysis methods.- Provide mechanical materials and tooling DFMA cost studies.
